Welcome to an experiment in both fun and customer service!
Welcome to my personal investigation of the cocktail!
I am not a bartender or a mixologist or a chef. I am not a sommelier nor do I have a degree in chemistry. I am fascinated both by customer service and the elements that make us each unique.
As a matter of study, I have decided to spend the next 365 days (at least) pursuing unique cocktails and the people and places that serve them. I am seeking not only flavor and fun, but the concept of excellence in service.
I will likely find the vast majority of these drinks in and around my new adopted home of Philly, but as I travel hither and thither I intend to add as I go.
This will not be perfect. There will be days when my health, wealth and activities may make this process difficult. On these days please allow me the slack to begin my own trials at mixing. I will endeavor to add the story for the drink I am attempting to mix. And because I started this journey in a bit different manner earlier this summer, I may supplement my first submissions with cocktails I’ve enjoyed in the lovely summer 2012.
I would love to have you join me on this journey. It is easy. All you have to do is follow this blog, either my checking in daily or by subscribing to my daily email. Sign up on the Receive the Daily Drink tab and get the daily blog sent to your email every day.
Each month's cocktails will be listed in its unique tab.
- October 2012 - Octoberfest
- September 2012 - Back to School
- August 2012 - The Dog Days of Summer
Lest you worry for my liver, I will start this journey with moderation in mind. Being Irish/Catholic I cannot admit to never over-indulging, but this journey is about more than a night out on the town. It is about seeking perfection in form and in presentation. It is about the reason that you go to a restaurant or bar, or about the reason that your home is the center of all activity. This is about the pursuit of what makes us feel welcome and appreciated.
And about what tastes damn good!
I believe I need a rating system for both cocktails and service, so I am going to rate in this manner. A scale of 1-5 martini glasses will rate the quality of the cocktail. In order to also rate the level of service and interaction in the bar/restaurant I will use whatever I feel is most appropriate. Always different and always tied to the experience…..
Finally, I ask you to enjoy my ramblings. Try the drinks that you find intriguing. Patronize the locations that I find appealing. Show your support of businesses that live the lesson of excellence in service and experience. You'll find my drinks listed by month, and the months will be described by clever title. Spend time in the site, and let me know what you think.
And most of all…..try a Cocktail a Day with me!
